A Hallowe’en Competition!

Show us how you use our Hallowe’en decorations to be in with a chance to win a selection from our Christmas cake decorations, to be launched on the 28th October.

Hallowe’en Monster Cupcakes

Hello Cakers,
We have been working on a new idea for a little while now and can’t wait to hear what you think. We love baking and designing cupcakes and know that a lot of you do too! So we are working on some edible decorations and sprinkles for you to buy to use to decorate your own cakes!

With Hallowe’en just around the corner we thought it was the perfect opportunity to launch some spooooooooky decorations. Starting with our Spooky Eyes! These will be available to buy from us at the Marina Market on Sunday 9th October, and we’ll be launching a little competition too. Celebration Cakes

I can’t believe it has been 6 months since we left 212 High Street! It’s been super busy at Cakery HQ inventing cakes for Copper, keeping up with the ever increasing afternoon teas at Quay Three, baking for Coast Cafe, designing desserts, & supporting Team GB with cupcakes for The Marriott Hotel. Not to mention meeting up with all of our lovely customers at the local markets, including the brand new Morriston Market.

With all of this going on we are not taking any future orders for Celebration Cakes. While we do love making them we are not able to keep up with demand and have made the decision to focus on our cupcakes and layer cakes – which are made to order and can be personalised too! Any cakes currently on order will be made, so please don’t worry!

Boss Brewing Baking Diary Update

So, I’ve been a bit rubbish at keeping on top of the baking diary… But here’s a quick run down of the cakes we designed for Copper, courtesy of the South Wales Evening Post.

Last night we attended the launch of Boss Brewing’s new bar, Copper.

Following a busy few weeks trailing cakes made with their beer to sell, it was great to see the bar come to life.

We provided some sweet canapés….

Boss Brewing Baking Diary – Day 1

A few weeks ago we had a rather lovely meeting with the people at Boss Brewing to discuss baking a range of cakes and sweet treats to be sold at their soon-to-be-opening bar in Swansea, Copper.

The most exciting part of this –  getting the chance to play with some new flavours and incorporating their beers into a bespoke baking collection which will be available solely at Copper.

Last week we got our delivery of 4 of their most favourite beers.

And this week, we have had our recipe books out, our thinking caps on, and the flavour theasuraus at the ready as we delve into some new flavour combinations.

For day 1 the first beer to be baked was ‘Boss Brave – an Adventurous American IPA’. With American flavours, and instructions to create a ‘man-cake’ we looked to bacon and maple syrup for inspiration.

Yes, actual bacon. In a cake.

We don’t want to spoil the surpise completely for you…. but I don’t think you’ll find a more manly cupcake in Swansea. The IPA is described as being ‘Bold, Brazen & Ballsy…..’ and I definitely think this cupcake puts up a fair fight!

An egg-cellent ingredient

Here at The Cakery we break our way into over 15,000 eggs a year. They are a vital part of many of the items on our menu – they make our brownies rich, our cupcakes light and airy and give our scones a lovely shine. As they are so important to us, we make sure to ensure we always use free-range eggs.

Yesterday, I went with my family to Carmarthen to adopt four ex-battery hens. These hens had been kept in cages for their whole lives, and now that they were no longer consistent layers they were on their way to be used for cat food! Before they got packed away, they were collected by the Battery Hen Welfare Trust who takes the time to find every hen – on this occasion 180 girls – a new home for them to live out their retirement in peace. In the open air. With space. Room to run around and spread their wings.

Seeing the state of the poor ladies at the collection has prompted this blog post. To reiterate that every egg we use is from a free-range hen & to encourage all bakers to ensure that you buy free-range too.

Afternoon Tea at Quay Three

There is nothing quite like sitting down to Afternoon Tea. A delicous selection of cake, sandwiches, scones (with jam and cream), and – of course – a cup of tea. or coffee. Or even a little glass of fizz.

Now we may be biased but the lovely guys at Quay Three serve a  fabulous Afternoon Tea. How do we know? Because we bake most of it.

We’re moving!

It’s all change here at Cakery HQ. Saturday 30th January will be our last day at 212 High Street. (*sniff*) We are moving the Cakery back home to where it all began.

We are super excited as this will allow us to focus completely on celebration cakes, wedding cakes, cupcake gifts and a brand new Delivery Service! Our new HQ will be based in Waunarlwydd from Monday 1st February with brand new ovens and mixers all chosen especially for their cake making abilities! Everything will still be made by hand, from scratch (no packet cake mixes here) by Rhian, Helen and Savanah.

There will be some changes, we won’t have individual cupcakes ready to go, BUT you will be able to get your fix at Uplands Market and the Marina Market. Or you can order a box of cupcakes to be delivered to you! (Exciting, right?) Keep an eye on our website for our ‘Ready to Order’ cupcake boxes coming soon.

If you want to pop in to discuss a celebration cake you will need to arrange an appointment as we could be out delivering cakes, so give us a call or email hello@theraspberrycakery.co.uk. Or we can give you a price over the phone/email and, via the wonder of the internet, can arrange it all without you having to leave your chair!

Our website will be going through some changes over the next few weeks to update with all of our new information and new products. And hey, what do you think of our new blog?! Some exciting stuff to come here too…… so, as I said, it’s all change, but it’s ALL GOOD!
