I can’t say how proud and pleased I am to be able to post this during this strange time. A few weeks ago I had an idea to offer an afternoon tea for people to enjoy at home for the 75th Anniversary VE Day celebrations. I put my idea to The Farmers Arms in Waunarlwydd, as they had all of the take away procedures in place, and we worked on a menu between us.
Simon, landlord at The Farmers, suggested a donation for each tea sold to a local Veterans charity and we agreed on The Swansea Veterans Club.
When we set out, I honestly didn’t expect to get much more than maybe 40 teas, but the orders kept coming in and we did nearly 150 afternoon teas. Some for individuals who weren’t leaving the house, others sent to parents and grandparents, some for families having their own individual garden party.
We have been sent some beautiful photos of you enjoying your teas, and had some lovely feedback – which we really appreciate you taking the time to do.
Between The Farmers Arms and myself we raised a grand total of £432, with some extra donations and a top up from local Councillor Wendy Lewis we were able to donate £500 to the Swansea Veterans Club.
Once again, thank you for your support, we truly appreciate it. If you would like to make your own donation to The Swansea Veterans Club visit their Facebook page.
